TechnoServe is seeking a Coaching training provider who can work with LIWAY project and Ethiopian Kaizen Institute (EKI) to support EKI’s team and Private Kaizen Consultants to incorporate Coaching training into their training service provided to LI-WAY target group. Livelihood Improvement for Women and Youth (LI-WAY) is a pioneering poverty  reduction program that aims to improve the incomes of 200,000 women and youth in greater Addis Ababa. It is doing so through a market  facilitation approach, sustainably improving the functioning of systems in which poor women and young people can engage more productively.

In LIWAY, TechnoServe focuses on addressing constraints to growth in Addis Ababa’s medium and large manufacturing sector, which is a significant employer of LIWAY’s target beneficiaries, poor women and youth. To address production management challenges of manufacturing  firms (growth sector firms). Agreement is reached between TechnoServeLi-WAY, EKI and 8 private level Kaizen certified consultants to improve the  production management practices of the GS firms.

EKI is a government organization mandated to implement the Kaizen philosophy in Ethiopia’s export/import substitution manufacturing firms to improve their production management.

EKI will build the capacity of the private consultants by providing the training on Kaizen systems that enhance operational efficiency and productivity of the manufacturing firms.

EKI was delivering the service on various level of kaizen philosophy which are prepared training module and curriculum. However, currently EKI diverts the focuses on diagnosing and the challenges of the firms rather than focusing on preplanned solutions. Accordingly, EKI has extensive experience and organizational capacity to deliver the required level of capacity building and training to private consultants. To achieve the  organizational objective of EKI and Li-WAY collaborate to deliver Kaizen philosophy to improve the production management practices. The collaboration aims to improve the livelihood of youth and women working and seeking to work at the manufacturing firms, by creating economic Impact of creating more than 2,000 job and income opportunities in the medium and large manufacturing firms.

As coaching is both a science and an art, the planned training not only focuses on doing’ coaching but also on being’ coaching. In other words, coaching is not only about learning and practicing skills moreover, which includes listening, questioning, structuring a conversation, etc.

This coaching training will be delivered by private, Addis Ababa based coaching specialists and will build consultants’ skills to negotiate and transfer their knowledge to firm employees.

By providing this coaching training for the Kaizen basic level certified consultants, Li-WAY will ensure that consultants continue to support the manufacturing sector firms that implemented kaizen in the pilot intervention, which will help to sustain changes and progress achieved during the pilot intervention. As a result of this, consultants will have a capacity and skill of coaching their trainees to adopt the implementation mechanism and sustain the concept.
