Call for Application To Conduct Translation of the Core Humanitarian Standard 

Guidance Note and Indicators Into Amharic and Afan Oromo Languages 

For Strengthening the Capacity of local Civil Society Organizations to Respond Effectively in Emergencies (SCORE) Project 

Trocaire Ethiopia has been working in Ethiopia collaborating with both secular and faith-based organizations. The country strategy approved in 2018 aims to promote social justice through two-pillar Programmes; namely Resilient Communities (inclusive of humanitarian responses) and Women Empowerment. 

The main objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity of Civil Society Organizations to respond effectively and efficiently to emergency incidences. The project targets two of Trocaire Ethiopia partners namely Agri-service Ethiopia (ASE) and Oromo Pastoralist Association (OPA).

1. Overview of the Work 

Trocaire Ethiopia SCORE-EU project is working in consortium with Cordaid Ethiopia. There are five (2 from Trocaire Ethiopia) National Non-governmental Organizations (NNGO) collaborates mainly focusing on building their humanitarian response capacity. Towards this end, the project is working to improve the operating system of the NNGO partners to be better prepared for any kind of humanitarian response, mainly focusing on organizational and staff capacity building. 

The project has conducted capacity gap assessment with 2 NNGO partners (Agri-Service Ethiopia (ASE) and Oromia Pastoralist Association (OPA) and staff capacity on different international humanitarian standards. The Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) identified, as a common capacity need. Accordingly, the project is working to make the ‘CHS guidance note and indicators’ more accessible to the NNGO partners through training and making the document available in local languages. 

Trocaire Ethiopia on behalf of the consortium agencies is working to translate the ‘CHS guidance note and indicators’ document in to Amharic and Afan Oromo Languages to make sure that staff of local actors (even beyond the 10 NNGOs) have access and better understanding of the CHS and to make it an integral part of the organizations operation. 

2. Application Requirements: 

Applicants should demonstrate the following key requirements; 

  • a) The translator/s should have a minimum of BA degrees in relevant fields of study such as Language and Literature, Afan Oromo and Amharic Languages 
  • b) The translator should have relevant experience in translation and editing, 
  • C.Applicants should also have proven experience in the terminologies and concepts of accountability, 
  • d) The translator should be able to provide sample works along with this application, 

All interested applicants for the work have to submit their CV along with Technical and financial proposal. 

3. Application Procedures 

  • Applicants should submit their application which includes their resumes, evidence of previous work and the cost breakdown for the period of assignment; 
  • The cost breakdown should clearly provide details of professional fees (daily rates) inclusive of all the costs including tax, editing, graphic designs, and other costs;
